Crappie are prized for their white flaky meat. They are very prolific breeders and its this trait that can cause management issues. Crappie spawn early in the spring and are often quite successful.  Harvest and predation are required to manage crappie in any pond or lake. If left unchecked crappie can become overpopulated and their size stunted.
